Moxy Downtown Los Angeles brings the stylish design of its New York and Miami Beach properties to the City of Angels. Guests will find this hotel conveniently located near the convention center, shops, restaurants, and a popular residential neighborhood. In this article we talk about Why Moxy Downtown LA and 5 Insider Tips for Your Next LA Adventure.

Besides the associated Marriott Bonvoy perks, clever interiors, and lively pool scene, this hotel has perhaps the best dining and nightlife in LA. If that’s hard to believe, just wait until you experience it yourself. This hotel rivals Las Vegas resorts when it comes to restaurants and bars. Whether you’re hungry or not, here are five compelling reasons to visit Moxy Downtown Los Angeles.

Captivating Design

Inspired by the 1969 film “Easy Rider,” the hotel incorporates cheeky, rustic elements as a nod to the movie. The striking Yabu Pushelberg design evokes the theme of a wild west road trip through the desert with references to bikers and regional animals. Driftwood, leather, and stone accents fill the space along with Native American artwork.

The hallway carpeting resembles LAX runway markings, with room number signs modeled after old-fashioned airport departure boards.

Sharing the building with AC by Marriott Downtown LA, each hotel has a separate entrance but a different vibe. Moxy exudes youthful energy, while business travelers flock to AC. In Moxy’s lively lobby bar, expect to see locals mingling over drinks as co-workers type away on laptops nearby.

A second-floor studio overlooking the lobby hosts special events and has a DJ booth pumping tunes a few nights a week. Guests of both hotels share the fitness center and rooftop pool.

Clever Guest Rooms

Continuing the Easy Rider theme, guest rooms maximize space through underbed storage, walls of hooks, and folding desk space. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood rooms with light, especially at sunset.

Leather headboards resemble biker jackets, while handlebars double as modern wall art representing Moxy’s desert surroundings. Gold mosaic tiles shimmer like the Mojave sun against an accent wall fronting the open bathroom. Markings on the wall mimic hobo symbols used by old west travelers.

The vanity area has modern fixtures as do the separate shower stalls stocked with MUK toiletries. Corner King rooms tend to be more spacious with extra window exposures.

Downtown Location

Downtown LA (DTLA) is gaining popularity with locals, especially around Figueroa Street near the University of Southern California campus. Moxy is the closest hotel to the LA Convention Center, Crypto.com Arena, and downtown entertainment.

Sweeping Views

The high-rise takes in panoramic views of the LA skyline and mountain range, including glimpses of the famed Hollywood sign. Even the always bustling highway provides entertainment from this bird’s-eye perspective. With four outdoor terraces, there’s no shortage of scenery to soak up.

Epic Dining & Nightlife

With a dozen options, guests are spoiled for choice. The hotel’s crown jewel is Level 8, home to some of LA’s most impressive dining and nightlife. Brothers Mark and Jonnie Houston of HWood Group are responsible for popular restaurants, clubs and bars in LA. At Lightstone Group’s behest, they created a destination dining experience to rival other Moxy hotels.

There are 8 acclaimed food and beverage venues, each spearheaded by celebrity chefs. Highlights include East-meets-West teppanyaki at Maison Kasai, indulgent shabu shabu and sushi under a modern harp installation at Harlowe, South American flavors at Qué Bárbaro, and craft cocktails at the piano bar with aerialists performing nightly.

Don’t miss the seasonal poolside carousel bar and Sinners y Santos nightclub with its church-inspired décor, retractable boxing ring, and designated “sinners” and “saints” seating sections.

Secret bookcases in the bars conceal hidden lounge spaces to delight guests. Live music and DJs play at different venues, including the new al fresco Mother of Pearl oyster bar and adjacent Mexican food truck.

With non-stop energy day and night both indoors and out by the pool, some guests may never leave this thrilling hotel. When sunny, pool parties and DJs keep the outdoor terraces buzzing with California fun. I sincerely hope you like reading this “Why Moxy Downtown LA, 5 Insider Tips for Your Next LA Adventure” article.

Downtown Los Angeles is buzzing with excitement as the iconic Clifton’s Republic has announced it will be reopening its doors in early June 2024 after being closed for over 5 years. In this article we talk about Exciting News for Downtown LA, Historic Clifton’s Republic Set to Reopen its Doors in June.

Clifton’s Republic is a stunning 16,000-square-foot historic multi-level dining and entertainment venue located on Broadway near 7th street in downtown LA. First opened in 1935 by Clifford Clinton during the Great Depression, it became a beloved community gathering place known for providing free meals to those in need.

The Rise, Fall and Rebirth of a LA Landmark

Clifton’s originally opened as Clifton’s Cafeteria, feeding thousands of hungry Angelenos daily with its pay-what-you-can policy. It struggled during later decades before being purchased and transformed into the immersive dining and nightlife destination now known as Clifton’s Republic by current owner Andrew Meieran in 2015.

After closing again in 2018, this June marks the venue’s third official grand reopening and much-anticipated return as a premier downtown destination.

What’s On Deck for the Reopening

The reopening will happen gradually in phases, starting with the stunning Pacific Seas tropical tiki bar. Eventually the entire four-level space will be operational including the popular Monarch Bar, Gothic Bar, and Forest Glen spaces.

There will be exciting new food and drink menus, brunch service and lots of great entertainment and events in store. Some early highlights will include:

  • A residency by the circus burlesque dance troupe AirOtic with acrobatic aerial performances and dancing
  • More family-friendly events

While menus and entertainment will be new, the iconic eclectic décor, artifacts, murals, taxidermy and giant artificial redwood tree that makes Clifton’s so special will stay intact.

A One-of-a-Kind LA Institution

Part eatery, part bar, part nightclub and 100% an only-in-LA institution, a trip to Clifton’s Republic has been a right-of-passage for Angelenos and visitors for close to a century.

It’s treasured for its playful, over-the-top spaces like the woodsy Forest Glen lined with taxidermy animals or the mysterious candle-lit Gothic Bar tucked behind a secret door.

With five bars spread across four floors and everything from classic cocktails, to tropical tiki drinks, craft beers and wines, it’s been a downtown nightlife staple since long before the area’s current renaissance.

The entire venue is like stepping into a surreal dining theme park filled with oddities and hidden surprises that epitomizes Downtown LA’s eclectic arts and food scenes.

An Important Revitalization for Downtown

Clifton’s reopening comes at an important time as Downtown LA continues its revitalization after pandemic slowdowns. Locals and visitors alike are ready to return to the one-of-a-kind spaces and experiences that make the neighborhood such a cultural destination.

As one of Downtown’s most iconic and historic venues, the return of Clifton’s Republic represents the area getting back to form entertaining generations old and new under its famed forest canopy.

The June 2024 reopening is long-awaited exciting news for LA and the continued evolution of the city’s ever-changing food and arts capital. Stay tuned for more updates leading up to the big reveal! I sincerely hope you find this “Exciting News for Downtown LA? Historic Clifton’s Republic Set to Reopen its Doors in June” article helpful.

The ambitious Level 8 hospitality project in downtown Los Angeles is now complete with the debut of Mother of Pearl, an outdoor seafood restaurant and lounge overlooking the city. In this article we talk about Mother of Pearl the Ultimate Addition to Downtown LA Level 8 Dining Experience?

Led by chef Joshua Gil, formerly of acclaimed restaurant Mírate, Mother of Pearl brings a fun, vibrant dining option focusing on high-quality seafood and stunning views. The restaurant caps off the Level 8 complex – a 30,000 square foot collection of unique bar, lounge and dining concepts on the 8th floor of the Moxy and AC hotels near the LA Convention Center.

Seafood Spectacular

The menu at Mother of Pearl leans into chef Gil’s seafood talents, with highlights like sand dab sliders, yellowtail crudo, and lobster meatballs with squid ink pasta. An extensive raw bar offers oysters, shrimp, king crab and more. Guests can also order group platters piled high with a taste of everything, including caviar.

To match the oceanic dishes, Level 8’s beverage director Melina Meza has curated wine and cocktail lists with Italian, French and California vino along with spritzes and Champagne cocktails. A roving Champagne cart adds a touch of sparkle for guests lounging on the outdoor patio.

LA’s New Sunset Spot

Beyond the seafood-centric menu, the biggest draw of Mother of Pearl is the dazzling views. The outdoor restaurant and lounge looks out over downtown LA, with sights of the Convention Center, Crypto.com Arena in the distance and the Hollywood Hills beyond on clear days.

As the last piece of the Level 8 lineup, Mother of Pearl caps off a unique collection of drinking and dining spaces that offers something for just about everyone, all with that same striking vista. From shabu shabu to burlesque, Mexican wrestling and more, Level 8 encompasses some of LA’s hottest new concepts.

For sunset cocktails, late-night bites and stellar city sights, the opening of Mother of Pearl completes the ambitious Level 8 vision, giving Angelenos one more exciting destination for excellent food, drinks and views high above downtown LA.
