The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has arrested 27-year-old Yara Vanessa Pineda for the second time this year for attempted kidnapping. Pineda was previously arrested in late February for allegedly trying to kidnap a child from the Westlake District. After being released from jail at an unknown date, she was taken into custody again on May 28th for a similar crime at Seoul International Park in Koreatown. In this article we talk about LAPD Re-Arrests Suspect for Attempted Kidnapping at Koreatown Park.

Incident Details

On the afternoon of Tuesday, May 28th, LAPD officers responded to calls about a possible kidnapping suspect bothering children at the playground area of Seoul International Park. The large park on San Marino Street has baseball fields, tennis courts, and a children’s play area where the incident occurred.

According to FOX11, Pineda was harassing the children while their parents were present. The parents quickly intervened and contacted local authorities. When LAPD officers arrived at the baseball field section of the park, Pineda continued resisting arrest, forcing police to deploy a taser to detain the struggling suspect. Paramedics were also called to the scene to evaluate her after she was tased.

Previous Arrest

This was not Pineda’s first run-in with the law for attempted kidnapping. Back in February, she made headlines when she allegedly grabbed a 4-year-old boy without permission from behind and carried him outside a store on Virgil Avenue in the Westlake District. When confronted by the child’s parents, Pineda put the boy down and fled the scene on foot.

Days after the first incident, Pineda was recognized by a witness and arrested by LAPD near Tujunga Avenue and Magnolia Boulevard in North Hollywood. After an unknown period in jail, she was released and re-offended on May 28th in Koreatown.

Current Status

Now in custody once again, Pineda is being held without bail on a felony kidnapping charge for the Seoul International Park case. Her repeated brazen attempts to abduct children in public places have clearly distressed the local community.

Community Impact

Parents, especially, should stay vigilant about keeping a close eye on their kids while visiting parks and playgrounds in the Los Angeles area. The LAPD is also likely on high alert for any future crimes fitting Pineda’s dangerous pattern. Authorities act fast when it comes to catching offenders who try to harm children or take them away from their guardians.

Safety Measures

For those visiting Seoul International Park and other recreation areas in the city, it helps to be aware of the recent kidnapping attempts. Going to the park with another trusted adult or parent whenever possible adds an extra layer of protection. Staying involved with kids and being aware of the surroundings can help prevent many crimes.

Thankfully, no children have been seriously harmed by the suspect. But after two very public attempts, law enforcement officials want area playgrounds and parks to be safe places. Pineda’s re-arrest this week likely comes as a relief to many worried parents in the Koreatown community. Officers will continue working to keep child predators and kidnappers from threatening public safety.
