According to Los Angeles Daily News, Federal prosecutors announced charges against a 34-year-old North Hollywood man for attempted interference with commerce by robbery. He was denied bail. Two alleged accomplices also face charges, with one still at large as a fugitive.
The brazen robbery spree allegedly began on January 29th with a smoke shop in Tustin. The robberies typically occurred very late at night, with two masked and hooded suspects entering each business while brandishing firearms. In several incidents, a getaway driver waited outside in a flush vehicle.
The spree reached a dramatic climax on February 14th at the Downey doughnut shop. As an employee was being held at gunpoint, he retreated to the back kitchen area where he grabbed his own firearm. He opened fire, striking a wall but forcing the suspects to flee empty-handed.
