As the restaurant industry continues facing substantial challenges, a new event aims to showcase and support LA vegan eateries – the first-ever Vegan Women Summit (VWS) Restaurant Week. Scheduled for this May across West Hollywood and Los Angeles, the VWS Restaurant Week will celebrate local restaurants at the forefront of plant-based dining. The week-long event is the brainchild of VWS, a global events and media organization renowned for empowering women in the vegan movement.

“There are so many world-class restaurants doubling down on plant-based dining here in Los Angeles, and they’ve been hit pretty hard by the current economy,” said VWS Founder Jennifer Stojkovic. “It breaks my heart to see announcements of restaurants closing. We established VWS Restaurant Week to drive more awareness and foot traffic to these incredible places that make vegan food accessible to everyone with their innovative cuisine.”

Showcasing Culinary Excellence and Diversity

The VWS Restaurant Week will feature over a dozen establishments showcasing the excellence and diversity of LA’s plant-based dining scene. The event will spotlight restaurants across a variety of cuisines and neighborhoods.

In West Hollywood, restaurants like Ubuntu offer dishes made with West African ingredients, while Pura Vita is one of the only plant-based Italian restaurants and wine bars in the country. JOi Cafe in Westlake Village, Mazal in Echo Park, and Planta in Brentwood will also be featured.

Yoga-Urt’s three locations in Santa Monica, Echo Park and Glendale will participate along with other vegan favorites like Real Food Daily, Sugar Taco, Rawberri, Plant Butchers in Long Beach and Donna Jean in Sherman Oaks.

Chef Tara Punzone of Pura Vita said, “This week-long celebration is not just about showcasing the innovation, diversity and deliciousness of vegan cuisine; it’s also about strengthening our community and supporting the culinary industry during these challenging times.”

Giving Back to the Community

The VWS Restaurant Week also aims to give back. Participating restaurants will donate 5 percent of VWS menu item sales to Support + Feed. Founded by Maggie Baird, mother of Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell, Support + Feed is a nonprofit combatting food insecurity and the climate crisis.

“Now, more than ever, supporting local restaurants is crucial,” said Punzone.

The restaurant week will drive foot traffic and awareness while celebrating LA vegan dining. “There is an amazing plethora of delicious and healthy vegan options available for any culture’s cuisine [in Los Angeles],” said vegan foodie, investor and activist Alicia Silverstone, who is backing the event.

Silverstone continued, “We need to showcase and support restaurants actively innovating and showing people how to enjoy a healthier plant-based lifestyle. This is why I have invested in both Sugar Taco and The Plant Butchers and why I’m excited to support the first-ever VWS Restaurant Week. I can’t wait to try all the new menu items!”
